After baking, you can guide your child to cut the cake into quarters, introducing the concept of fractions.
1. Convert numbers into animals

If your child can’t remember the numbers, try a more creative approach. First, write the number on a blank piece of paper, then use your creativity to turn it into a bird, flower, or whatever you can think of. For parents who don’t know where to start, YouTube has plenty of videos showing simple drawing techniques. |
2. Learn math through cooking

Baking is a fun way to teach your child to count and learn fractions. After you have finished a round or square cake, have your child cut it into quarters or eighths with a plastic knife. The pieces are the tools your child uses to add. For example, 1/4 of a cake + 1/4 of a cake equals 1/2 of a cake. |
3. Learn math while going to the supermarket

Shopping is a great opportunity to help your child learn through practice. Before you go to the market or supermarket, make a grocery list and ask your child to estimate the cost of each item. At the checkout, your child will be able to compare the actual cost with the estimated cost. |
4. Create an open-ended story

This method helps children learn new words and review words they already know. You will need some paper, pencils, crayons, and imagination. Parents and children can sit down together and write a funny story that begins with the phrase "once upon a time" and introduces a few main characters. Then, you encourage your child to think of the next story line. The bright pictures and colors on the paper help children remember the story and the vocabulary in it longer. |
5. Turn housework into learning material

Doing laundry and folding clothes can be tedious, but it can be fun if you ask your child to sort by color, size, or type, then count the items. Need to drive to the store to pick up groceries? On the way, ask your child to look for cars that are the same color, plants that are the same type, or signs that are the same shape. |
