Tips to prevent folliculitis
Folliculitis is a common skin condition. It is usually caused by bacteria and the affected areas of skin develop painful bumps or pimples due to damaged or irritated hair follicles.
This condition commonly occurs in the legs, arms, back, and buttocks. Here are some ways to prevent or keep it from recurring.
Do not use moisturizer indiscriminately
Stop using moisturizers if you have folliculitis. They tend to clog pores and make the condition worse. Instead, consult a dermatologist. He or she may prescribe a lotion made from aloe vera or oatmeal to soothe your skin.

Avoid frequent waxing or shaving
If you have folliculitis, avoid shaving or waxing for a while until the inflammation subsides. Once the blisters or pimples have cleared, you can wax or shave, but no more than once a month. Also, be sure to disinfect any cleaning tools you use.
Shave properly
Make sure your razor blades are clean and use an electric razor if possible. Use a shaving balm or cream on your legs and arms before and after shaving, rinse your legs and arms with warm water and pat dry. Then use a mild lotion to reduce the risk of skin irritation or breakouts.
Avoid wearing tight clothes
One of the common causes of pimples on the skin is wearing tight clothing. Let your skin “breathe” by wearing comfortable cotton pants and shirts. In the summer, avoid wearing skinny jeans completely. Humidity and heat combined with tight clothing will aggravate your condition.
Eliminate T-shirts
Spandex or synthetic fabrics are proven to be bad for your skin because of the harmful chemicals used in the production of these fabrics. Additionally, spandex cannot absorb sweat, which can irritate the skin and make it more prone to inflammation.
Apply aloe vera gel
Aloe vera gel is a great home remedy to reduce and prevent irritation and inflammation caused by folliculitis. It also reduces symptoms such as redness, itching, and can provide immediate pain relief.
Oatmeal bath
You can add a little oatmeal to a bowl of water and bring it to a boil. Simmer until the water becomes cloudy, then mix it with your bath water. An oatmeal bath will help soothe your skin.
Use tea tree oil
Folliculitis can take at least a week to heal and scarring can last for months. To prevent recurrence, add a few drops of antibacterial tea tree oil to a cup of hot water and dip a washcloth in it and gently wipe your legs, arms or any area prone to acne.
