The most powerful AMG engine fitted to the 2018 E-class model boasts up to 603 horsepower.

The German automaker unveiled a high-performance version of the E-class at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. In addition to the standard version, the E63 AMG S variant offers a drift function for those who enjoy this extreme sport.

The new E63 AMG boasts a bold, sporty design, clearly differentiating it from the standard version, rather than being bland like the previous model.Unlike the AMG versions of the previous generation, the E-class features larger, more muscular air intakes and front bumper. The hood, with its embossed lines and coupe-like styling, is a highlight of this high-performance version.

The new model comes with 19-inch double-spoke wheels on the standard version and 20-inch wheels for the S version. The headlights, the refined design of the body and rear of the car still retain the essence of the standard E-class. However, there are slight changes to the chrome-plated rear bumper, the dual exhaust pipes, and the vertical slat grille.

The E63 AMG's interior is similar to the standard version, featuring leather seats, a flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel, and an extended touchscreen. The S version adds grey crystal accents on the steering wheel at the 12 o'clock position, contrasting stitching on the seats, and seatbelts. The German automaker also offers optional packages to enhance the sporty feel of the steering wheel, seats, or trim in silver carbon fiber or fiberglass.

In the performance race against BMW's M Performance division, Mercedes AMG unveiled a new engine for the E63. It's a 4-liter V8 Biturto producing 563 horsepower and 750 Nm of torque. The car can accelerate from 0-96 km/h in 3.4 seconds and has an electronically limited top speed of 249 km/h.

The S version offers greater power, at 603 horsepower and a maximum torque of 850 Nm. It accelerates from 0-96 km/h in 3.3 seconds and has a top speed of 299 km/h. Both versions are equipped with a 9-speed gearbox.Speedshift MCT, along with quick shift functionality and a variable torque distribution system.

The temporary cylinder deactivation technology is also applied to the 2018 E63 AMG. Cylinders 2, 3, 5, and 8 can be temporarily deactivated to save fuel when the vehicle is not operating at high speeds.

Two AMG versions ofThe Mercedes E-class will be available on the market next summer. The special Edition 1 version will follow approximately a year later. Mercedes has not yet revealed the prices of the two new models.
