Mercedes S-class coupe power upgrade
Instead of a 4.7-liter engine, the 2018 S-class coupe uses a 4-liter V8 but with 14 more horsepower thanks to a twin-turbocharger.
A few months after launching the upgraded S-class sedan, the German automaker introduced the 2018 coupe and convertible before bringing them to display at the Frankfurt Motor Show in mid-September in its home country. The car will be sold from mid-2018.

Both the coupe and convertible come in three versions: S560, S63 and S65, the latter two of which are high-performance AMG versions. The S560 replaces the S550 in the lineup and uses a 4.0-liter twin-turbocharged V8 instead of the previous 4.7-liter. Power is up 14 horsepower to 463 horsepower and torque remains unchanged at 700 Nm.
Combined with the new engine is still a 9-speed automatic transmission and Mercedes' 4Matic all-wheel drive system on the coupe, while the convertible only has rear-wheel drive.
The S63 also changes engines, from a 5.5-liter V8 to a 4-liter version from AMG. But instead of losing power, the capacity increases from 557 to 603 horsepower, while torque remains unchanged at 900 Nm. The 7-speed gearbox is also replaced by a new 9-speed from AMG. All versions of the S63 use the 4Matic 4-wheel drive system.
With the S63 version, the engine is still a 6-liter twin-turbocharged V12 and the parameters are also the same: 612 horsepower and maximum torque of 1,001 Nm. Rear-wheel drive and 7-speed automatic transmission.
Aside from the powertrain changes, the 2018 S-Class coupe and convertible are not much different from the 2017 models. The cosmetic upgrades are only subtle. All six models get redesigned front and rear bumpers, new headlights, and OLED taillights. The AMG versions get a grille that follows the design languagePanamericana from AMG GT, giving it a more aggressive look.
