Merkel: EU cannot block Russia-Germany gas project and Ukraine should 'have a share'
The European Commission will not be able to stop the construction of the Nord Stream 2 pipeline, despite the adoption of a new EU gas directive, German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Wednesday, the politician was quoted by the Handelsblatt newspaper.
"The new gas directive gives the European Commission more room to experiment with the implementation of Nord Stream 2.
However, this directive will not hinder the project. The project has been almost completely approved," - Ms. Merkel affirmed.

The German Chancellor called Ukraine a key point in the construction of Nord Stream 2. In her opinion, Kiev should remain a gas transit country, despite the appearance of a new gas pipeline.
