Over the past week, many sources from Spain have been rumored that Lionel Messi is considering returning to Barcelona. He wants to have one last season in Europe before focusing on preparing for the 2026 World Cup and wants to play at the new Camp Nou stadium.
However, journalist Claudio from ESPN dismissed this possibility for three reasons: Messi wants to end his career at Inter Miami, his family is currently happy in Miami and there is no sign that he plans to return to Spain.
However, Barcelona and Inter Miami could still play a friendly at the end of the season, giving Messi a chance to meet his former team and fans again. This could be Messi's official farewell to Barcelona at the Camp Nou, something he didn't get the chance to do when he left the club in 2021.
Messi spent 21 years with Barcelona, becoming the greatest player in the club's history, winning 10 La Liga titles, 4 Champions Leagues and 3 FIFA Club World Cups. In 778 appearances, he scored 672 goals and had 303 assists.
