Mexico arrests notorious mafia boss Rodriguez Garcia.

Mexican authorities announced on May 25 that security forces had arrested Juan Manuel Rodriguez Garcia, a notorious drug cartel leader in Tamaulipas state, which borders the US state of Texas.

Monte Alejandro Rubido, a representative of Mexico's Federal Security Council, said the drug lord was arrested while hiding with his family in the town of San Pedro Garza Garcia in Nuevo Leon state.

According to an unnamed official, Rodriguez Garcia's gang, known as the Gulf Cartel, operates along the Rio Grande River and is vying for control of criminal activity throughout the state of Tamaulipas.

Over the past period, this gang has controlled drug and weapons trafficking networks, money laundering, kidnapping, and murdering numerous immigrants.

In addition, this gang also extorted protection money from criminal organizations attempting to enter the United States illegally.

The US-Mexico border has become a frequently used "gateway" by criminals as a transit point for drugs and human trafficking.

According to statistics, violence related to drug cartels and organized crime in Mexico has claimed the lives of approximately 70,000 people since 2006.
