Tuition exemption for students in marine environmental incident areas
Students from kindergarten to grade 12 in localities affected by environmental incidents will have their tuition fees exempted.
TAt the 2nd session, the People's Council of Thua Thien - Hue province passed a Resolution regulating tuition fees of public preschool and general education institutions for the mass program of the 2016-2017 school year.
Accordingly, the tuition fee will increase from 20% to 30% compared to the old level. Specifically, the tuition fee in wards of Hue city is the highest, of which the boarding kindergarten level is 144 thousand VND/month; the junior high school level is 75 thousand VND/month and the high school level is 78 thousand VND/month. For the high-quality school system, the People's Committee of Thua Thien-Hue province will regulate the increase but not exceed 20% compared to the collection level of public schools at the same level; at the same time, consider exempting or reducing tuition fees for students in localities affected by the marine environmental incident.

Tuition fees for the 2016-2017 school year are expected to be over 73.5 billion VND, an increase of 19.5 billion VND compared to the old fee.
The People's Council of Thua Thien-Hue province has also added that students from kindergarten to grade 12 in localities affected by the recent environmental incident will be exempted from tuition fees according to the same mechanism as natural disasters. At the same time, it is recommended that public universities in the area may have a mechanism to exempt tuition fees for students in areas affected by the marine environmental incident.
Mr. Nguyen Van Cao, Chairman of the People's Committee of Thua Thien-Hue province said: "After the Resolution of the Provincial People's Council on tuition collection, we will continue to exempt or reduce tuition fees for preschool and public students in the province in areas affected by the marine environmental incident. We are assigning the Department of Education and Training and localities to compile lists of proposed support levels. If there is a major impact, we will reduce 100% and consider minimizing the contributions."
