Defence-blog said that this is the second time since the end of 2017 that a Polish Air Force MiG-29 fighter jet has suddenly crashed while on a mission. The previous accident happened on December 19.
"Before the plane suddenly lost contact and crashed, the pilot did not report any problems during the flight," said Colonel Piotr Iwaszko.
Although the specific causes of both accidents have not been disclosed, according to Colonel Piotr Iwaszko, investigation and aftermath work are being urgently carried out by authorities.
It is known that although Poland is a very active member of NATO on the front line against Russia, the Polish Army still has many weapons of Soviet origin in its equipment, including MiG-29 fighters, although they are starting to be planned for replacement.
To replace the MiG-29, Poland has considered candidates such as the JAS 39 Gripen, the F-35 and purchased more F-16s. However, all new options are still on paper.
