Minh Beo completed his prison term and was deported back to Vietnam on December 22.
The sentencing hearing for Minh Beo has just ended, the court concluded that the comedian will complete his prison term on December 19 and be deported back to Vietnam on December 22.
Four months after pleading guilty in the fourth hearing, Minh Beo appeared in court for the last time in the sentencing hearing at 1:30 a.m. on December 16 (local time) in courtroom W2, California Superior Court.
According to Ngoc Lan, a Vietnamese reporter in the US, the trial took place quickly, lasting only a few minutes. With the charges and sentence unchanged, the judge announced that Minh Beo would complete his sentence on December 19.
The female reporter added that from the day his prison term ends, Minh Beo will have 72 hours to transfer to the state probation agency to complete all procedures with the Immigration Department to deport him to Vietnam. That means he will be deported on December 22.
Also in the trial, the judge ordered Minh Beo to pay $300 in restitution to the state and $70 to the county. Minh Beo must also provide a DNA sample to the state and local authorities, and must register as a sex offender for life if he lives, goes to school, or works in California.
The deportation procedure in the US is that the Immigration Department will handcuff and escort the deportee to the airport, in case he or she runs away. To avoid attracting attention, they will cover the handcuffed person's hands with a yellow shirt so that outsiders cannot see. After taking the deportee to the plane, they will remove the handcuffs.
"Minh Beo appeared in court with a calm face and a fatter figure than in the previous trial. When he arrived at court, he held a piece of paper and covered his face so that his image would not be captured by the American media," said Ms. Ngoc Lan.

Minh Beo in the second trial. |
Minh Beo's lawyer was present at court from 9am. According to a Vietnamese reporter in the US, she happily chatted with everyone but as usual she did not answer questions about the case and her client.
Minh Beo's brother - Hong Phuoc Kien - also arrived at court early. His face looked less tense than in previous trials.
Before the trial, attorney Do Phu commented on transgender attorney Mia Yamamoto's choice during the August 10 hearing to have Minh Beo plead guilty but not immediately sentence him so he could remain in the county jail.
Time spent in the county jail is counted as one day in jail equal to two normal days. Therefore, instead of serving 18 months in prison, Minh Beo will only have to serve 9 months. This means the actor will return to Vietnam before December 24.
Previously, in the fourth hearing, Minh Beo pleaded guilty to two of the three charges against him: oral sex with a male minor under 18 years old and attempted lewd acts with a child under 14 years old.
