The Miss Grand Vietnam 2023 Organizing Committee said that the contestants' names in this year's competition will be more serious and professional.

At the launching ceremony of the Miss Grand Vietnam 2023 and Miss Grand International contests held in Ho Chi Minh City on April 3 with the participation of Master Pham Kim Dung - President of Miss Grand Vietnam, Ms. Teresa - Vice President of Miss Grand International, reigning Miss Grand International 2022 - Isabella Menin, reigning Miss Grand Vietnam 2022 - Doan Thien An and Miss and Runner-up.

Representatives of the Organizing Committee have provided some important information about this year's competition. Notably, Ms. Pham Kim Dung - representative of the Organizing Committee affirmed that the upcoming name calling will be "more serious and professional" after many controversies in the previous season.

"The Organizing Committee plans to encourage contestants to say a folk song, proverb or song depending on their talent to express the culture of the region where they live. However, not all contestants can have such a long name-calling performance. We are calculating and will come up with a final solution," Ms. Pham Kim Dung shared.

The President of Miss Grand Vietnam said that the name-calling in last year's final round attracted attention, but "sometimes too much joy turns into sadness." In the final round of the contest, the name-calling will follow the format of Miss Grand International, including the contestant's name and hometown.

In 2022, the calling out of the contestants' names and hometowns in the final round of the Miss Grand Vietnam contest caused a lot of controversy in public opinion when some contestants were said to have performed "too much", "like shouting into the ear"...

At that time, many audiences and some artists and experts also gave their opinions. Mr. Pham Duy Khanh, director, producer and member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Model Association, said that the name introduction contest at the Miss Grand Vietnam 2022 final round was not suitable for Vietnamese culture.

Afterwards, the Organizing Committee of the contest spoke up to say that they had acknowledged comments from the audience and the press and had discussed and exchanged to overcome the problems in the name calling part in the final night.

The Miss Grand Vietnam 2023 contest will take place in July and August. This year's jury includes Miss Ha Kieu Anh (Head of the jury), People's Artist Vuong Duy Bien, director Hoang Nhat Nam, Miss Thuy Tien, runner-up Lona Kieu Loan, supermodel Minh Tu, actress Diem My 9X, designer Do Long.

Regarding the copyright dispute over the Vietnamese name with Minh Khang Company, Miss Grand Vietnam representative said they are waiting for results from the competent authority.
