Mitsubishi admits to fuel economy fraud in 600,000 vehicles
The world auto industry was shocked when Japanese company Mitsubishi admitted to lying about fuel consumption of more than 600,000 vehicles.
Japanese automaker Mitsubishi (MMC) has admitted to falsifying fuel economy test results for more than 625,000 small cars produced since mid-2013. Of these, 157,000 were Mitsubishi-branded cars, while nearly 470,000 were manufactured for Nissan under a cooperation agreement between the two parties.

The scandal involves four small cars, including Mitsubishi's eK Wagon and eK Space, and the Dayz and Dayz Roox, which the company produces for Nissan. According to Mitsubishi's previous announcement, the four models had a fuel consumption of only about 25-30 km/liter of gasoline, but in reality, Nissan engineers discovered that the consumption of the cars was about 10% higher than these figures.
Mitsubishi representatives said they would notify customers and were very sorry about this error. Mitsubishi has now decided to stop producing and selling the above vehicles. Nissan has also stopped selling the above vehicles supplied by Mitsubishi.
The automaker said it will investigate vehicles produced for foreign markets and set up an investigation committee consisting only of experts from outside the company to ensure accuracy and objectivity./.
