Automatic bean sprout production model

Although not trained in school, with a passion for research and creativity, Mr. Nguyen Van Quang (Da Ton commune, Gia Lam district, Hanoi) has successfully created an automatic bean sprout production system.

After finishing junior high school, Nguyen Van Quang decided to drop out of school to help his parents with farming and start a family. In 2003, he and his wife took over the family's bean sprout growing business. Every day, his wife worked hard to take care of the bean sprouts, causing the skin on her hands to peel off due to water corrosion. Feeling sorry for his wife, he thought he had to do something to help her reduce the workload. At first, he experimented and created an automatic float for the water pump and some tools for production.

Recalling the time when he had the automatic buoy, Mr. Quang excitedly said: "My wife and I were very happy, we didn't have to worry about pumping water into the tank, production went much smoother." From then on, he nurtured the idea of ​​turning his family's manual production model into an automatic production model.

After a period of research, he started to make a seed filter and seed cleaning machine. After more than a year of making, testing and many failures, he realized that he lacked knowledge about mechanics. Not discouraged, he started to buy books on machine building to read and learn from the experiences of mechanics around the area.

In 2006, his seed screening and cleaning machine was born to the great joy of the whole family. He said: "I designed the seed screening and cleaning machine based on the working principle of the human arm when sifting rice. On average, in one hour, my family's two machines can clean 100 kg of beans, 20 times faster than doing it manually."

That initial success was the motivation for him to create many types of machines to serve production work such as: continuous flipping machine, pot washing machine, water treatment machine, filter machine... Each type of machine he created holds an important position in the production model. For example, water filter and water treatment machine, if impurities are not removed, the seeds will not absorb nutrients, causing the sprouts to be stunted and the color is not eye-catching. As for pot washing machine, if not washed clean, the seeds will easily get sick and spoil.

When asked about the machine he is most proud of in the production model, he said: "It is the continuous flipping machine. It took me nearly 10 years of research, thinking, and a lot of effort and dedication to be able to create it." His continuous flipping machine does all the work of taking care of seeds for humans, such as: automatic watering, bean sprout incubation, etc.

Never stop making

Once the process was automated, he increased production to 200 to 300 kg per day compared to before. However, increasing the quantity also required paying attention to the nursery environment, because bean sprouts are very sensitive to the weather.

He said: “When the quantity had just increased, for nearly a month the bean sprouts in my family’s nursery room were sick for unknown reasons.” While he was struggling to find a solution, luck came. While reading a book about the path of infection, he realized that the air in the nursery room had a problem. Without hesitation, he started to repair the room and installed air conditioning, heating bulbs, antibacterial bulbs, etc. Since then, the bean sprout production model has never been sick and has brought a stable income to his family.

According to Mr. Quang, to produce bean sprouts effectively, the nursery must be designed according to the convection air model, cool in summer, warm in winter, and dry quickly in humid weather. If you want bean sprouts to grow well, you must pay attention to the temperature, in the cold season the nursery temperature must be from 25-27 degrees Celsius, in the hot season from 27-29 degrees Celsius and regularly cleaned.

Although the production has stabilized, his family produces more than 200kg of bean sprouts every day, he still worries every time he sees his wife packing and labeling the products. He started to research and manufacture an automatic packaging and labeling machine.

Many times his family advised him to stop his manufacturing job, to focus on production and take care of his family. But the manufacturing blood was ingrained in him and he could not stop.

“Researching and creating is the joy of my life. Each product is a brainchild that gives me more inspiration to create,” said Mr. Quang.

After finishing the bagging and labeling machine, he plans to establish a company so that his family's bean sprouts can reach consumers in all regions.
