Expanding and deepening US-Vietnam economic relations

On the afternoon of August 6, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai received the delegation of the US House Rules Committee led by Chairman David Dreier.

At the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai expressed his delight at the progress in relations between Vietnam and the US in recent times; and highly appreciated Chairman of the US House Rules Committee David Dreier for supporting the granting of permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) to Vietnam, helping to completely normalize economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Chairman David Dreier and many other parliamentarians who wrote letters proposing to promote negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) Agreement.

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai expressed his hope that Chairman of the US House Rules Committee David Dreier would continue to support the cooperative relationship between the two countries and the two Congresses, support the early recognition of Vietnam's market economy status, grant Vietnam universal tariff preferences, and facilitate trade between the two countries.

Chairman of the US House Rules Committee David Dreier thanked Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai for taking the time to receive the delegation; affirmed to continue contributing to promoting cooperation, especially in the field of trade, between the two countries.
Mr. David Dreier emphasized the opportunity to expand and deepen US-Vietnam economic relations in the context of the dynamic development of the Asia-Pacific region, the formation of the ASEAN community and the prospect of the TPP Agreement.

On the same afternoon, at the headquarters of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh received Chairman of the US House Rules Committee David Dreier and his delegation.
Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh expressed his delight at the progress in relations between Vietnam and the US in recent times, including cooperation between the two National Assemblies.

The Minister emphasized that the economic, trade and investment fields will continue to be the focus and driving force of bilateral relations.

The Minister affirmed that Vietnam continues to make efforts to improve the investment environment and create favorable conditions for foreign enterprises, including US enterprises, to seek investment and business opportunities in Vietnam. The Minister asked the US to soon remove trade barriers to Vietnamese export goods.

Chairman of the US House Rules Committee David Dreier and the delegation highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in the renovation process and affirmed their desire to further promote bilateral relations, especially in economics, trade and investment; emphasized support for removing trade barriers to Vietnamese exports to the US, especially agricultural products./.
