On the afternoon of August 6th, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai received the delegation from the US House Rules Committee, led by its chairman, David Dreier.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai expressed his pleasure at the progress in relations between Vietnam and the United States in recent times; and highly appreciated the support of Chairman of the House Rules Committee David Dreier for granting Vietnam permanent normal trade relations (PNTR) status, which helped to fully normalize economic and trade relations between the two countries.

The Deputy Prime Minister welcomed Speaker David Dreier and many other MPs who had written letters urging the acceleration of negotiations on the Trans-Pacific Economic Partnership Agreement (TPP).

Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai expressed his hope that Chairman of the House Rules Committee David Dreier would continue to support the cooperative relationship between the two countries and the two Congresses, support the early recognition of Vietnam's market economy status, grant Vietnam the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) tariff treatment, and create favorable conditions for trade between the two countries.

Chairman of the House Rules Committee David Dreier thanked Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai for taking the time to receive the delegation; affirming his commitment to continue contributing to promoting cooperative relations, especially in the field of trade, between the two countries.
David Dreier emphasized the opportunity to expand and deepen US-Vietnam economic relations in the context of the dynamic development of the Asia-Pacific region, the formation of the ASEAN community, and the prospects of the TPP agreement.

Later that afternoon, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs headquarters, Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh received Chairman of the House Rules Committee David Dreier and his delegation.
Foreign Minister Pham Binh Minh expressed his pleasure at the recent progress in relations between Vietnam and the United States, including cooperation between the two Congresses.

The Minister emphasized that the economic, trade, and investment sectors will continue to be the focus and driving force of bilateral relations.

The Minister affirmed that Vietnam continues to strive to improve the investment environment and create favorable conditions for foreign businesses, including US businesses, to seek investment and business opportunities in Vietnam. The Minister requested that the US side promptly remove trade barriers to Vietnamese exports.

Chairman of the House Rules Committee David Dreier and his delegation highly appreciated Vietnam's achievements in the reform process and affirmed their desire to further promote bilateral relations, especially in economics, trade, and investment; emphasizing support for removing trade barriers on Vietnamese exports to the US, particularly agricultural products.
