Drowning is one of the leading causes of death in children in Vietnam. Drowning not only directly threatens the lives of children, but also affects the happiness and sustainable development of families and society.

The ceremony aims to promote the pioneering and voluntary role of the Youth Union and its members in working with departments and branches to build a safe and healthy environment for children; limit and prevent drowning; contribute to ensuring the safety of children's lives, ensuring happiness and sustainable development of families and society.

With the spirit of "Each youth union member is a propagandist about the risk of drowning accidents", the program attracted over 300 youth union members and team members in the city.

At the launching ceremony, representatives of the grassroots organizations of the ward and commune Youth Union signed a commitment to prevent child drowning in 2017. Accordingly, the Standing Committee of the Vinh City Youth Union requested that the grassroots Youth Union proactively coordinate with local departments, branches and organizations, organize communication activities on mass media such as propaganda on loudspeaker systems in residential areas, use social networks effectively, distribute leaflets, banners, etc. to warn about the risk of drowning accidents.

In addition, the units will survey a number of potentially unsafe locations at swimming pools, docks, along streams, ponds, and lakes, and at the same time put up warning signs, hang banners, and slogans to warn people and children, and build "Youth Volunteer Team" models as the core in organizing propaganda about knowledge of drowning prevention for children.

In addition, other contents that will be carried out by the Youth Union include: Guiding children and students to raise awareness and strictly comply with the regulations of swimming pools and beaches; when participating in bathing and swimming activities, adult supervision is required; recommending creating conditions for children and students to proactively participate in swimming classes during the summer; coordinating the organization of swimming classes for children and teenagers in the area to ensure absolute safety.
