How will History change in the new textbooks?
History in the new textbooks will have many changes from primary to high school. The integration of internal subjects at all 3 levels is the newest point.
The Ministry of Education and Training is completing the final stages of the curriculum of subjects and educational activities to solicit public opinions 60 days before finalizing and submitting to the curriculum review councils for review and approval. At that time, organizations and individuals can rely on the curriculum to write new general education textbooks.
One of the subjects that has changed and integrated is History. According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nghiem Dinh Vy (member of the new Textbook Program compilation team), in Primary School, History will no longer be a separate subject but will be deeply integrated with Geography to form History and Geography. Other levels of education will also integrate the subject.

Integration in History textbooks has been done up to now but at a very moderate level. However, the integration of internal subjects has not been done yet.
Therefore, the new Textbook Program compilation team proposed that it is necessary to strengthen integration in teaching because this is a common trend in the world, as well as implementing Resolution 29 of the Party Central Committee on deep integration and gradual differentiation in upper grades.
Specifically, in the current curriculum and textbooks, the History subject is written separately from world history to Vietnamese history. In the new History subject program, the group has drafted a model: World - region - Vietnam - locality. In which, Vietnamese history is the focus, accounting for 60% of the program's duration. The local history part will be proactively designed by the locality according to the guidance of the Ministry of Education and Training within the permitted scope.
In the integration process, great attention will be paid to clearly showing the relationship between world history and Vietnamese history. Later in textbooks, especially teachers' books, teachers will be asked to analyze for students the relationship and impact between world history and Vietnamese history. For example, the October Revolution in Russia, the birth of the Communist International, World War II, the reform in the Soviet Union... How did all these events affect Vietnam and vice versa?

At the primary level, cross-subject integration will be implemented, no longer as a separate subject as in the tradition. Currently, History is taught in a general history style, from ancient to modern times, but in the future, deeper integration will be implemented and it is expected to integrate History and Geography, but still have the unique characteristics of both subjects.
The new History and Geography curriculum starts from grade 4 and ends in grade 5 with the study of neighboring countries, Southeast Asia and the world. This is a new point that the current textbooks do not have.
The writing style is expected to combine storytelling with History and Geography topics. The content is mainly related to the country and people of Vietnam, including general knowledge of both subjects. For example: The topic "Introduction to the Van Lang - Au Lac state" will talk about the establishment, the process of building and protecting the state through a number of stories: Lac Long Quan - Au Co; My Chau - Trong Thuy...

Associate Professor Dr. Nghiem Dinh Vy also said that at the secondary school level, students must learn traditional and specialized things according to general history. But it is expected that History and Geography will also be integrated in the specific content of the chapter and according to general topics.
“Currently, the group has come up with 4 topics: For example, the topic of islands, the topic of urban areas, the topic of Vietnam on the path of innovation, the topic of civilization in the Red River Delta and the Mekong River Delta... It is expected that in the History and Geography program in secondary schools, 10-15% of the program time will be devoted to general topics,” Associate Professor Vy said.

Teachers will have to change the way they teach.
According to Associate Professor Dr. Nghiem Dinh Vy, the orientation in the new textbook program will increase multi-subject integration, using more knowledge from other subjects in the chapters to make history rich, attractive and help students gain broader knowledge.
For example, connecting History with Geography, Literature, Science and Technology... For example, learning about primitive times will be combined with biological knowledge such as the development of the brain, the evolution from 4 legs to 2 legs... Or using Math knowledge, with Roman numerals, Arabic numerals or Physics with inventions of steam engines, engines...
In the secondary school curriculum, History is a sub-subject of History and Geography.
High school is the career orientation stage, so it should be taught according to advanced topics and subjects. The integration of subjects according to the world - region - Vietnam - local model at all 3 levels is the newest point.
However, with the above innovation, Associate Professor Dr. Nghiem Dinh Vy said that the difficulty that the editorial team predicted when integrating World History with Vietnamese History is that students will have difficulty systematizing knowledge throughout the development process of History. To overcome this, each grade's textbook will have an overview of world history at the end of the course.
On the other hand, teachers need to change their teaching methods so that students can self-assess and evaluate. Teaching History not only deals with issues of national and world history but also relates to current life./.
