The Japanese are famous for their high productivity and punctuality. But there are Japanese companies that still think their employees are not diligent enough, like Iris Ohyama, which sells everything from electronics to gardening tools to animal feed.
The company has announced that it will ban employees from sitting while using their computers. Instead, they will have to stand to work at high-rise desks arranged around the office.
Iris Ohyama is implementing the rule at its headquarters in Kakuda City, Miyagi Prefecture, and will first roll it out to other offices nationwide. Under the rule, employees will be allowed a maximum of 45 minutes to work on their work computers. Exceptions will be made for those who need more time on the computer or are in better health.
