A water traffic police officer died while fighting against 'sand bandits'

On June 25, the Ninh Binh Provincial Police Department announced that it was temporarily detaining three illegal sand mining vehicles for processing, and at the same time salvaging the ship that sank on the evening of June 23, clarifying the cause of the death of a Waterway Traffic Police officer while on duty.

According to Colonel Pham Van Hoi, Chief of Staff, Ninh Binh Provincial Police, on the evening of June 23, the working group of the Waterway Traffic Police Team, Ninh Binh Provincial Police Traffic Police Department coordinated with the Environmental Police Department to carry out the task of combating illegal sand mining on the Day River.

At the section passing through the border between Kim Son district, Ninh Binh province and Nghia Hung district, Nam Dinh province, the working group discovered and arrested 4 vessels illegally mining sand. Immediately after that, the working group escorted the violating vessels to the headquarters of the Waterway Traffic Police Team for handling.

At that time, Lieutenant Colonel Dang Tuan Anh (42 years old), Deputy Head of the Waterway Traffic Police Team, and Captain Vu Manh Hung (32 years old), an officer of the Waterway Traffic Police Team, were following the sand boat of Mr. Nguyen Van Kien (43 years old), from Nghia Phu Commune, Nghia Hung District, who was violating the law. There were 3 people on board, and while the sand boat was being moved to the headquarters, it suddenly encountered heavy rain and strong winds and sank. Lieutenant Colonel Dang Tuan Anh went missing, while Captain Vu Manh Hung was lucky to escape death but was injured.

At around 9:30 a.m. on June 24, the authorities found the body of Lieutenant Colonel Dang Tuan Anh at the site of the sunken ship. On the morning of June 25, comrade Tuan Anh's funeral was held amid the grief of his family, relatives and colleagues.

Ninh Binh Provincial Police said that recently, the situation of "sand bandits" on waterways in the province has become complicated, so Ninh Binh Provincial Police have implemented a plan to fight against crimes and law violations on inland waterways, and increased the handling and arrest of illegal sand dredging ships on the Day River.
