Canadian student discovers ancient Mayan city

(Baonghean) - A Canadian student has discovered a lost Mayan city hidden deep in the Mexican jungle through a new method. That is, connecting the position of the stars with the position of temples on Earth.

William Gadoury, 15, was fascinated by ancient Central American civilizations and spent hours studying charts of constellations and maps of famous Mayan cities.

Then he discovered something surprising: there was a connection between the position of the stars and the location of the Mayan city on earth.

"I was really surprised and delighted when I realized that the brightest stars of the constellations were connected to the largest cities of the Mayans," he revealed to the Journal de Montréal.

In hundreds of years, no scientist has found such a correlation.

Studying 22 different constellations, William found that they corresponded to the locations of 117 Mayan cities scattered across Mexico, Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador.

When he applied this discovery to a 23rd constellation, William realized that there was a connection between two of those stars and the Mayan city, but the third star had no such connection.

William used Google Maps and predicted that there must be another city hidden deep in the jungles of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula.

The Canadian Space Agency agreed to use satellite telescopes to investigate, and they saw some amazing images: what appeared in the photo was an ancient Mayan pyramid and dozens of smaller structures surrounding it.

If the satellite images are verified, the discovered city would be one of the largest Mayan population centers ever discovered.

William named the newly discovered city K'aak Chí, which means Fire Mouth. He hoped to one day see the ruins of this city with his own eyes.

"This will be the culmination of three years of work and the dream of my life," said William.

But getting to the ancient Mayan city won’t be easy. It’s in one of the most remote and inaccessible areas of Mexico, and the archaeological work will be expensive. “The main problem is money. The cost of finding the city will be very expensive,” said Dr. Armand LaRocque, an expert at the University of New Brunswick.

Scientists said they were surprised by William's research, especially the research conducted by a student./.
