Initial information, at around 5:00 p.m. on October 1, a group of 6 female students (4 8th graders and 2 6th graders) invited each other to the lake at the brick kiln in Nghi Hoa commune (Nghi Loc district) to play.
However, when she just got into the water, Vo Thi Anh (born 2001, living in Kim Lien hamlet, Quan Hanh town) slipped and fell into the water. Seeing that, her friends jumped into the water to save Anh, but all 6 children drowned.
Hearing the children's cries for help, two men fishing nearby discovered them and immediately ran to save them. The drowning incident resulted in the death of Nguyen Thi Ngoc (born in 2003, 6th grade student, Quan Hanh Secondary School).
Vo Thi Anh had water in her lungs. After receiving first aid at Nghi Hoa Commune Health Station, she was transferred to Nghe An Maternity and Pediatrics Hospital for emergency treatment. Four other children were lucky to escape.
Doctors from the Emergency Resuscitation Department of Nghe An Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital said that Anh was admitted to the hospital at 9:00 p.m. on October 1 in a state of drowning and had to be given oxygen. After receiving emergency care, Anh has overcome the critical stage and is recovering.
Lying on the hospital bed, Anh recounted: “Yesterday afternoon, I went to my uncle’s house with some friends (Uncle Anh raises ducks near the brick kiln lake) to play. When I saw some friends herding cows nearby, they invited me to the lake to play, and I slipped and fell into the water.” Ms. Nguyen Thi Phuong (34 years old, Anh’s mother) said that at 6:00 p.m. on October 1, she heard that her child had an accident and immediately ran there to see people taking Anh to the commune health station for emergency treatment.
After the incident, local authorities and teachers of Quan Hanh Town Secondary School visited and encouraged the families of the students in the accident.
