'A bite when hungry' in a poor neighborhood
(Baonghean.vn) - Over the past 5 years, thanks to maintaining the "Love Rice Jar" model, the Women's Association of Hamlet 11, Vien Thanh Commune, Yen Thanh has helped hundreds of member families overcome difficulties.
As a habit, every time she mills rice for her family, Mrs. Phan Thi Bo saves a little rice and puts it in the "charity rice jar" placed next to the rice mill with the thought: When I have a full meal, I must also think of those who are more disadvantaged than me.

Hamlet 11, Vien Thanh is located in the middle of Dong Son mountain valley, an arid land, people here mainly live on agricultural production. However, because production depends entirely on nature, people here often suffer from crop failure and famine. Although material life is still difficult, people in the poor hamlet always have a spirit of love, care and support for each other.

With the spirit of helping each other, the "Rice Saving Jar" model has been effectively maintained by the Women's Union of Vien Thanh hamlet for the past 5 years. |
Ms. Tran Thi Nghien, Head of the Women's Union of Hamlet 11, Vien Thanh Commune, said: "According to the policy of the Women's Union of the commune, each branch organizes one to two savings models to support and help families in difficulty in the area. Through understanding the actual situation, the hamlet has 3 rice milling machines, so it is convenient for organizing the "Charity Rice Jar". From that idea, in the branch's meeting when we approved it, all members enthusiastically supported it, so in 2012 the "Charity Rice Jar" model was formed". The whole small hamlet has nearly 20 people who are disabled, lonely elderly, single mothers, and seriously ill, so they really need the sharing and care of the community.

Up to now, the charity rice jar has been maintained for 5 years in this poor neighborhood. Every time we go to mill rice, depending on each person's heart, we will contribute rice to the charity rice jar. The association also asks the owners of the rice mills to record the list of people's support, this list is made public right at the milling machine shop for everyone to know. Every year, the association organizes 2-3 rounds of voting for those in need of support to organize rice distribution. Thanks to the people's sharing, in the past time, the association has contributed over half a ton of rice, supporting hundreds of women and families facing difficult circumstances, illness, and misfortune.
In addition to the “Charity Rice Jar”, the Women’s Association of Hamlet 11 also organizes many other activities with the aim of helping families in difficult circumstances such as: contributing labor days to build house foundations, planting corn, harvesting rice, etc. for members. Thanks to that, the village and neighborhood are more united and close-knit, the morality of “the poor help the poor” is maintained as a beautiful feature in everyday life.
