(Baonghean.vn) - While people were busy preparing for the first sea trips of the year and spring crop production, priest Nguyen Dinh Thuc - parish priest of Song Ngoc, Quynh Ngoc commune, Quynh Luu district, incited parishioners to go to Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province to file a lawsuit against Formosa Company for causing an environmental incident in Ha Tinh sea in 2016.

On the morning of February 14, 2017, hundreds of parishioners gathered at Song Ngoc parish following the preaching of priest Nguyen Dinh Thuc, but were treated as if they were “abandoning their children”. Those who had vehicles used them, those who did not have vehicles walked, heading towards National Highway 1A to find a way to go to Ha Tinh, causing traffic insecurity and affecting security and order in the area.

Previously, in September 2016, a number of parishioners from Phu Yen parish, An Hoa commune; Manh Son parish, Tien Thuy commune; Song Ngoc parish, Quynh Ngoc commune... went to the People's Court of Ky Anh district, Ha Tinh province to file a lawsuit against Formosa Company, but the People's Court of Ky Anh town returned the lawsuit because the petition and documents of the people who filed the lawsuit did not provide documents or evidence to prove the damages.
Meanwhile, fishing by fishermen in the central provinces directly affected by the environmental incident such as Ha Tinh, Quang Binh, Quang Tri and Thua Thien Hue has improved.
As a locality with a sea area outside the polluted area due to the environmental incident caused by Formosa in Ha Tinh, Nghe An fishermen have had successful sea trips since mid-2016. In Quynh Luu, with over 1,279 vessels, including 695 offshore fishing vessels with over 90CV, in 2016, 45 new vessels with a capacity of over 400CV were built and purchased (25 new vessels built according to Decree 67, 4 steel-hulled vessels).

Thanks to the construction and upgrading of boats and effective exploitation, the total fishing output in 2016 of the district reached 69,383 tons/plan of 60,000 tons, an increase of 19.7% compared to 2015. Of which, the exploitation output was 59,234 tons, an increase of 18.46% compared to 2015.
In the early days of 2017, fishermen in Quynh Luu and Hoang Mai always had big catches of anchovies, herrings, and needlefish. Fisherman Nguyen Van Ha, owner of the boat named 67/CP at Tien Thuy fishing port, happily said: After 8 days and nights at sea, his boat caught about 21 tons of anchovies. With a selling price of 10,000 VND/kg, the total income was 210 million VND, after deducting all expenses, the profit was about 100 million VND.
Chairman of Hoang Mai Town People's Committee - Mr. Nguyen Huu Tuy said: "Hoang Mai fishermen are almost unaffected in going out to sea and consuming products. That is a good sign for fishermen as well as attracting tourists to Quynh beach".

In early Spring 2017, Tien Thuy commune, Quynh Luu district launched 3 more large-capacity fishing boats built according to Decree 67 with a total value of over 30 billion VND.
The joy of high-yield exploitation since 2016 and the support of departments, branches and localities are the motivation for fishermen in coastal areas to successfully go to sea right from the first trips of the year.
While authorities at all levels are trying to support people to go out to sea and produce the spring crop, priest Nguyen Dinh Thuc used an incident happening in another locality as an excuse to incite and incite some gullible parishioners to unreasonably file lawsuits, causing insecurity and disorder in the area.
Nghe An is a province with a coastline stretching across 5 districts and towns including: Hoang Mai town, Quynh Luu district, Dien Chau, Nghi Loc, Cua Lo town. According to the Nghe An Department of Aquatic Resources Exploitation and Protection, the province currently has more than 4,000 fishing boats with more than 19,000 workers at sea. Of these, more than 1,300 boats with a capacity of over 90CV are engaged in offshore fishing. |
