A commune in Nghe An 'earns' more than 30 billion VND from turmeric

(Baonghean.vn) - In 2017, Nghi Kieu commune, Nghi Loc district (Nghe An) planted more than 100 hectares of turmeric; the value of unprocessed turmeric tubers was about 30 billion VND.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Quy in Hamlet 15A, Nghi Kieu Commune (Nghi Loc) said that her family has been growing turmeric for many years now, and this plant has brought in a high income. In 2017, she expanded the area to 6 sao (4 sao of yellow turmeric, 2 sao of black turmeric). Thanks to favorable weather, experience in cultivation and proper application of techniques, the turmeric has grown well.

At this time, many of Mrs. Quy's turmeric fields have been harvested; on average, 1 sao of turmeric yields 1.5 tons of tubers, at a price of 10,000 VND/kg, earning about 15 million VND. When processed, 1 sao of turmeric tubers yields 100 kg of starch, at a price of 300,000 VND/kg, earning 30 million VND. In 2017 alone, her family processed about 600 kg of starch, deducting production costs, earning a net profit of 160 million VND.

In Nghi Kieu commune, there are currently many households growing turmeric on large areas, such as Mr. Nguyen Van Thuy's household growing 2 hectares, Mr. Nguyen Van Giap's household growing 1.5 hectares...

In previous years, the whole commune only had 4-5 hamlets growing turmeric, in 2017, 22/27 hamlets grew this plant. According to data, in 2017, the whole Nghi Kieu commune grew over 100 hectares of turmeric., the revenue is up to 30 billion VND.

Nghi Kieu is a commune with a large natural area, including many agricultural areas suitable for turmeric. From that source of income, people's lives are improved; at the same time, it contributes to socio-economic development so that the commune can soon reach the new rural finish line.
