The current Man Utd coach is aiming for the record of the coach with the most Champions League matches in Europe.

Jose Mourinho has had 133 Champions League games in charge, 61 games fewer than the record of 194 games held by former coach Alex Ferguson.

"I know I'm in the top five or six but I'm still quite far from the top. I'll try my best to keep up with this record," Mourinho shared when he participated in the Champions League this season with Man Utd, after missing a year of experience in the Europa League.

Mourinho wants to make his mark in the Champions League by surpassing the record of his senior colleague whom he always admires.

"The Champions League is the tournament I want to participate in. Maybe I'm ambitious, I don't know, but I want to be the coach who participates in the most Champions League matches," the Portuguese coach added.

Mourinho has won the Champions League twice with Porto (2004) and Inter Milan (2010). He is aiming for a third title when he takes Man Utd to this year's tournament. In the group stage, which starts next week, Man Utd will face opponents Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow.

"The Champions League is a special experience for everyone. Some of my players have not had this experience yet," Mourinho said. "It will be great for them and the fans to be back in the Champions League and to have at least three games at Old Trafford. I think it will be great."
