The current Man Utd coach is aiming for the record of the coach with the most Champions League matches in Europe.

Jose Mourinho has 133 Champions League games in charge, 61 fewer than the record of 194 held by former manager Alex Ferguson.

"I know I'm in the top five or six, but I'm still far from the top. I'll try my best to keep up with this record," Mourinho said when he was able to participate in the Champions League this season with Man Utd, after missing a year of experience in the Europa League.

Mourinho wants to make his mark in the Champions League by surpassing the record of his senior colleague whom he has always admired.

"The Champions League is the tournament I want to participate in. Maybe I'm ambitious, I don't know, but I want to be the coach who participates in the most Champions League matches," the Portuguese coach added.

Mourinho has won the Champions League twice with Porto (2004) and Inter Milan (2010). He is aiming for a third title when he takes Man Utd to this year's tournament. In the group stage, which starts next week, Man Utd will face Benfica, Basel and CSKA Moscow.

"The Champions League is a special experience for everyone. Some of my players have not had this experience," Mourinho said. "It would be great for them and the fans to be back in the Champions League and to have at least three games at Old Trafford. I think it would be great."
