Mr. Bean - The clown who makes the whole world laugh.
Also in 2015, Mr. Bean turned 25, while Rowan Atkinson – who embodied the comedic character and became an icon of contemporary British culture – celebrated his 60th birthday. With 25 years on air, both Mr. Bean and Rowan Atkinson have become legends.
The one who makes the whole world laugh.
The first episode of the television series Mr. Bean aired on January 1, 1990, in the United Kingdom. After 15 episodes, the character became a British legend and expanded his influence to the rest of the world. The character was created by the lead actor and screenwriter, Rowan Atkinson. Atkinson describes Mr. Bean as having the personality of a child, but unfortunately, that child has the body of an adult. The story revolving around this character isn't grand or epic; it's simply about how he solves problems and the difficulties he encounters in his work. This could be his return to his old school or his struggle to find a parking spot on the street.

Despite revolving around very ordinary stories, Mr. Bean has proven its appeal. The series has "conquered" 200 different countries and territories worldwide and has inspired two feature films and a spin-off animated film that is frequently re-aired on Disney Channel. It is known that the character of Mr. Bean began to be developed while Rowan Atkinson was studying for his master's degree at Oxford University. Mr. Bean lives alone in a small apartment in Highbury, North London. He is always seen wearing a tweed suit and red tie, and driving a lime-yellow car. His best friend is a brown teddy bear named Teddy, whose eyes are made of buttons. Despite his eccentricities, Mr. Bean also has a girlfriend – Irma Gobb.
Mr. Bean rarely speaks, and when he does, it's simply funny, meaningless lip movements. But it's precisely this that has allowed the show to spread worldwide without the need for translation. No one knows his real name or profession; Mr. Bean is his self-given nickname. However, in the show Mr. Bean's Holiday, the name "Rowan" appears on Mr. Bean's passport.
A similar character, Robert Box, also played by Rowan Atkinson, appeared on ITV in the 1979 show Canned Laughter. A year later, a sketch of the Mr. Bean character was created. But it wasn't until 1987, with the Just for Laughs show and comedy festival in Montreal (Canada), that Mr. Bean made his debut to the public.
Because of its humor, and because anyone can laugh while watching, many children have become fans of Mr. Bean. However, according to psychologists, this television series is not suitable for children, as they lack the intelligence to distinguish between intentionally silly actions meant to be funny and reality. It's not uncommon for children to unconsciously imitate Mr. Bean's bizarre actions. Furthermore, the character is very selfish and acts purely on instinct. Yet, nothing can stop Mr. Bean's appeal. It's impossible not to laugh when Mr. Bean appears.

An actor only needs one role.
While some actors need numerous roles to achieve fame, Rowan Atkinson only needed to become Mr. Bean. Mr. Bean celebrated his 25th birthday, while Rowan Atkinson turned 60 earlier this year. Throughout his acting career, no role has surpassed that of Mr. Bean. Whenever Rowan Atkinson is mentioned, people immediately think of Mr. Bean, and vice versa. Thanks to this character, in 2008 he was honored to appear in the BBC documentary series Comedy Map of Britain. He has also been recognized with the BAFTA and Laurence Olivier awards.
Like Mr. Bean, Rowan Atkinson's private life is very discreet. He's quite different from other stars. Fans only know that he's one of the few actors with a high academic degree; he studied electrical engineering at Newcastle University and then earned a master's degree at Queen's College, Oxford University. Unlike Mr. Bean, who is loyal to his tiny lime-yellow car, Rowan Atkinson is a car enthusiast. He has a whole collection of cars including an Aston Martin DB2, Ford Falcon, DB7 Vantage, V8 Zagato, Austin Metro, McLaren F1, Audi A8, Honda Civic Hybrid, Lancia Integrale, Bentley Mulsanne, MG X-Power SV, Rolls-Royce Phantom, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Honda NSX Ayrton Senna...
Rowan Atkinson and his wife, makeup artist Sunetra Sastry, married in the early 1980s. They have two children, Lily (1995) and Benjamin (1993). But after 23 years of marriage, Rowan Atkinson shocked everyone by announcing his divorce from Sunetra and publicly revealing his relationship with actress Louise Ford. Their wedding was very quiet, and their divorce was equally private.
Rowan Atkinson and Louise Ford have only been together for a year. The couple began their relationship while working together on several comedy shows. Rowan Atkinson's current girlfriend is a relatively unknown comedian and not exactly a beauty. It's unclear how she managed to win Mr. Bean's heart, but it must have been quite... Mr. Bean style.
