Mr. Dam and Le Quyen were criticized for signing their names on famous painters' paintings.
The two singers were criticized by netizens for leaving a large signature on a painting by artist Hua Thanh Binh. This item was auctioned to support Le Binh and Mai Phuong in their cancer treatment.
Specifically, the incident happened at the Tinh Nghe Si music night organized by artists in Ho Chi Minh City to raise funds to support two actors Le Binh and Mai Phuong who have lung cancer.
Famous artists participating in the performance and contributing auction items include Hong Nhung, Dam Vinh Hung, Quang Le, Le Quyen, Quang Linh, Duong Trieu Vu, Bao Anh... The music night attracted quite a number of artists and audiences, and was later shared by the program's media that it raised 835 million VND.
Among the items auctioned was a painting donated by an anonymous benefactor. This person asked Dam Vinh Hung and Le Quyen to bid for it, later earning 200 million VND.

The incident happened a long time ago, but it was not until the morning of October 14 that the images of Dam Vinh Hung and Le Quyen signing the front of the painting after the auction was widely spread on the internet. In particular, these images were heavily criticized by the art world.
Many artists said that this painting is the work of artist Hua Thanh Binh, a famous name in the art world of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general, known to art lovers at home and abroad. To the art world, his works are of great value and worthy of respect.
Therefore, before the images of Dam Vinh Hung and Le Quyen signing on the front of the painting, the art community in Ho Chi Minh City became even more upset. Painter Siu Quy, Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association, wrote on his personal page: "Showbiz artists sign their names on the front of a painting. Are they auctioning the painting or the signature? It's heartbreaking to see the cultural behavior of artists doing culture."
These images are causing Dam Vinh Hung and Le Quyen to receive criticism from the art world and netizens. |
Painter Luong Luu Bien, a Vietnamese artist who exhibited his paintings in France, commented: "Good for charity, but a pity for signing someone else's paintings. So sad for you guys!"
Art critic Nguyen Duc Binh (Department of Fine Arts, Photography and Exhibitions) was quite upset: "Congratulations to Mr. Hua Thanh Binh for selling his paintings. But also condolences to him because his paintings unfortunately fell into the hands of uncultured parrots."
Responding to these posts, artists and art lovers all believe that signing a painting is tantamount to vandalizing the painting. An art audience said: "The only person who has the right to sign a painting is the artist, the author of that painting. And the signature is also calculated by the artist so as not to destroy the composition of the painting but to become a part of the painting, with its own artistic intention."
According to another viewer, if you are not the author of the painting, signing on the back of the painting is not allowed, considering the principle of preserving the painting, let alone signing on the work itself. Moreover, Le Quyen and Dam Vinh Hung signed on a large blank space of the painting, with a large signature area.
After the art world spoke out, these images are still being widely shared online, with angry reactions from netizens.
