(Baonghean.vn) - Greedy for profit, when someone placed an order for the "goods", Chuyen bought more than 3 kg of crystal meth on credit. If the deal had gone through, Chuyen would have pocketed 4,500 USD.

On October 21, at the People's Court of Nghe An province, the Hanoi High People's Court opened a criminal appeal trial of defendant Lo Van Chuyen (born 1981), residing in Luong Minh commune (Tuong Duong) for the crime of"Illegal drug trafficking".

According to the case file, on November 14, 2019, Chuyen was at home when he received a phone call from a man named Thanh (unknown background and address) in Muong Xen town asking to buy 3 kg of crystal meth. After that, Chuyen called a man named Chua to buy the drugs and was quoted a price of 5,500 USD/1 kg.

Chuyen reported to the buyer that the price was 7,000 USD/1 kg. Because he had no money, Chuyen asked to buy on credit and the seller agreed.

At about 7:00 p.m. on November 22, Chuyen drove a motorbike from Hoa Binh town (Tuong Duong) to Noong De village, Nam Can commune (Ky Son) to buy 3,163.47 grams of crystal meth for a total of 16,500 USD from a man named Chua.

After purchasing the drugs, Chuyen brought them to Hoa Binh town (Tuong Duong) to deliver to the buyer, but suddenly the working group of the Nam Can International Border Guard Station discovered and caught them red-handed and confiscated all the above evidence.

Considering that the defendant's behavior is dangerous to society. The defendant trafficked a large amount of drugs, the court of first instance sentenced Lo Van Chuyen.death penalty. Then, the defendant filed an appeal for a reduced sentence.

At the appeal court, defendant Chuyen changed his appeal to a plea of innocence. Chuyen gave a evasive statement, claiming that he only bought drugs to help a man named Thanh. However, the defendant admitted that if the deal was successful, he would have earned 4,500 USD. But later, the defendant admitted his crime and asked for a lighter sentence.

The appellate court determined that at this trial, the defendant could not provide new details compared to the first instance judgment. Therefore, there was no basis to consider reducing the sentence. Given the large amount of drugs, the sentence imposed by the first instance court was appropriate. Therefore, the appellate court rejected the defendant's appeal and upheld the first instance judgment. Sentenced Lo Van Chuyen to death for the crime of "Illegal drug trafficking"./.
