What is Trump's purpose in closing the Russian consulate?

In the context of the US's recent request to close a series of Russian diplomatic facilities, which could escalate tensions between the two countries, a veteran reporter from the Russian TV channel RT has hypothesized the real motive behind the above decision of US President Donald Trump.

Earlier, on August 31, the US State Department ordered the closure of the Russian consulate in San Francisco, as well as two other diplomatic buildings in Washington and New York. The reason given publicly for this move was to respond to the Kremlin's order for the US to reduce its diplomatic staff in Russia.

At a press conference on August 31 in Washington DC, White House Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders announced that the closure of a series of Russian diplomatic facilities in the US was a decision made personally by President Donald Trump.

Responding to the US decision, the new Russian Ambassador to the country, Mr. Anatoly Antonov, affirmed that Moscow will not react too agitatedly, and will act in a “calm and professional” manner. Ambassador Antonov emphasized that the two countries should build a dialogue for international stability.

However, according to Afshin Rattansi - host of RT's UK's Going Underground, the reason is deeper than the information published.

“One thing that can be said for sure is that the changes in the chief of staff and other members of President Donald Trump’s White House indicate that the ‘Deep State’ has won and that the so-called ‘isolationist candidate Donald Trump’ is over,” Rattansi said. “He is pushing the military war game on the Korean Peninsula, he is increasing troops in Afghanistan, he is deploying more troops to the border with Russia in European Union countries.” All of these moves are consistent with President Trump’s recent policy of wanting to heat up global tensions.

Reporter Rattansi believes that the above decision of the US will certainly escalate tensions with Moscow and that Washington's next target may be Beijing.

The RT reporter commented that the US always chooses a policy of aggressive diplomacy, exerting foreign diplomatic pressure and foreign military pressure. “We must remember that the White House has repeatedly emphasized that ‘all options are on the table’ when solving various problems.”

According to another inference of Rattansi, President Trump's above action can also be understood as an effort to rectify the internal turmoil of the US government and help him dispel the suspicion of "collusion with Russia" that has been smoldering throughout his term in office.

The decision to close Russian diplomatic facilities in the US may be bad news for Russian citizens in the US as well as business partners and Russia-US relations, but it could serve as a tool for the Trump administration to curb the continuous attacks by the US media reporting that he has ties to the Moscow government.

“By doing this, he can say, ‘Look, I am not a pawn of Moscow, I suddenly closed down Russian diplomatic facilities and actually escalated tensions with them more than what former President Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton did,” Rattansi explained.

From there, President Trump showed himself to be somewhat independent and would keep others from impeaching him, Rattansi concluded.

It remains unclear how bad the tensions will get, as diplomatic relations between the world's two "largest nuclear powers" have always been strained.

Mr. Rattansi believes that we have to wait and see whether President Donald Trump himself tweets or speaks directly, which is different from what US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson previously said on this issue./.
