Entering its new generation, the Mazda CX-5 offers three different engine options, including both petrol and diesel engines.
| As previously reported, Mazda officially unveiled the new generation CX-5 compact crossover at the 2016 Los Angeles Auto Show. It seems Mazda doesn't want to be outdone by its compatriot Honda, which also recently introduced the new generation CR-V. |
| However, compared to the 2017 Honda CR-V, the changes to the new generation Mazda CX-5 are not as pronounced or impressive. In particular, the new generation Mazda CX-5 does not have a turbocharged engine like its competitor, the 2017 Honda CR-V. Instead, the new generation Mazda CX-5 offers a diesel engine option, which the 2017 Honda CR-V lacks. |
| Specifically, the new generation Mazda CX-5 is equipped with three different engine options. First is the 2.2-liter SkyActiv-D diesel engine. Next are two SkyActiv-G direct-injection gasoline engines, with capacities of 2.0 and 2.5 liters. |
| All three engines are paired with either a 6-speed automatic or manual transmission. Front-wheel drive is standard on the new generation Mazda CX-5, while all-wheel drive is an optional extra. |
| In terms of design, the 2017 Mazda CX-5 is clearly influenced by its siblings, the new CX-3 and CX-9. The front end of the Mazda CX-5 is 10 mm wider than before, giving it a more imposing appearance. Additionally, the A-pillar of the new generation Mazda CX-5 has been moved back by approximately 35 mm. |
| Additionally, the new grille is wider, connecting to the slimmer headlight clusters. Below, the horizontally elongated and rather narrow air intakes make the front of the Mazda CX-5 appear wider. |
| The side design of the new generation Mazda CX-5 remains virtually unchanged from its predecessor, except for the chrome window trim. |
| At the rear, there are sharper taillights that wrap around both corners of the rear of the car. Finally, there's a redesigned roof and a sharp C-pillar. |
| Entering its new generation, the Mazda CX-5 also features a special red exterior paint color called Soul Red Crystal. This paint consists of multiple transparent layers that reflect sunlight. |
| Stepping inside the new generation Mazda CX-5, drivers are greeted by a fresh interior space thanks to the three-spoke steering wheel, push-button engine start, and a 4.6-inch color screen located in the instrument cluster. |
| Meanwhile, the dashboard features a 7-inch screen, reminiscent of Mercedes-Benz designs. A premium 10-speaker Bose sound system and the Mazda Connect system, which supports smartphone connectivity, are other highlights of the 2017 Mazda CX-5's equipment. |
| In terms of safety, the new generation Mazda CX-5 features radar-based cruise control and traffic sign recognition. This feature can read speed limits and other traffic signs and display them on the 4.6-inch screen. Additionally, it includes a torque control system to improve driving feel and handling. |
| The price of the 2017 Mazda CX-5 has not yet been announced. It is expected that, after the US, the new generation Mazda CX-5 will be launched in many other markets around the world, including Vietnam. |
