(Baonghean.vn)- On the morning of July 11th, under the chairmanship of Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Dinh Viet Hong, the Provincial People's Committee held a working session with relevant departments and agencies to discuss the land use planning for rice cultivation in the province until 2020, with consideration to 2030.

Comrade Dinh Viet Hong delivered a speech giving directions.

According to a report by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, from 2000 to 2010, the area of ​​rice-growing land in Nghe An decreased by over 5,527 hectares due to conversion to other purposes. The rice land use plan until 2020, with consideration extending to 2030, aims to strictly manage the province's rice land resources, ensuring food security in conjunction with socio-economic development, national defense, and security objectives. The rice land use plan is linked to the implementation of policies for protecting, managing, and developing rice land; and policies supporting rice producers… creating momentum for the development of rice production towards a commodity-based system, contributing to improving the lives of farmers.

The goal is for our province to stabilize 96.1 thousand hectares of rice land by 2020, of which 84 thousand hectares are dedicated to wet rice cultivation, and to stabilize 92.3 thousand hectares by 2030, of which 80.6 thousand hectares are dedicated to wet rice cultivation. Based on this, there are plans to delineate high-tech rice cultivation zones covering approximately 8,400 hectares in key rice-growing areas in 2015 and 28,000 hectares in 2020.

At the meeting, delegates unanimously agreed on the land use planning scheme for rice cultivation in the province proposed by the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development. They also suggested the need for more appropriate policies for managers, as well as strong solutions to improve rice productivity and create economic efficiency in agricultural production.

Concluding the meeting, Comrade Dinh Viet Hong requested the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development and the consulting unit to incorporate the opinions of relevant departments and agencies, and finalize the plan for submission to the Provincial People's Committee at the upcoming meeting.
