Muller scores twice, Bayern enters National Cup final

The Bavarian "Gray Tigers" defeated Werder Bremen 2-0 in the semi-final on April 19, keeping their hopes of winning the treble this season alive.

Thomas Muller scored in each half, enough to see Bayern beat Bremen and book their place in the final. At the Olympiastadion in May, Bayern will face either Dortmund or Hertha Berlin.

The German striker opened the scoring in the 30th minute, after jumping high to head the ball from a corner kick. The Bremen defender fell while marking Muller.Goalkeeper Manuel Neuer's net shook once after David Alaba's own goal. But the referee disallowed the goal because he thought the Bayern defender had been fouled. Bremen pressed, surprising Bayern and creating many dangerous chances. When they were very close to scoring, Bremen conceded a second goal, from a controversial play.

Bayern were awarded a penalty in the second half when Arturo Vidal was brought down in the box. Video footage showed the Chilean midfielder diving, but the spot-kick allowed Muller to score his second.

"In my opinion, when I watch the game again, it's not a penalty. It's a dive," Muller said. "But in reality, it's more like a foul, the tackle from the opponent is very dangerous."

The win keeps Bayern on course for a treble this season. Pep Guardiola's side have opened up a huge gap on the Bundesliga's second-placed side, and are in the Champions League semi-finals and German Cup final. This is Bayern's 21st appearance in the German Cup final, having won the title 17 times.
