People living along National Highway 7A in Khe Nan village, Chieu Luu commune (Ky Son) complained that for many years they had to live with the stench coming from the drainage ditch right in front of their houses. The drainage ditch of National Highway 7A is also the drainage ditch for domestic wastewater from households in the area.
Mr. Kha Van Ta, a resident living next to the wastewater ditch, said: The wastewater ditch started to appear since the village was supplied with natural water, nearly 10 years ago. This section of the ditch has no manhole cover, so the smell is even worse. "Sometimes it's so unpleasant that I want to leave the house, but I don't know where to go, so I have to endure it," Mr. Ta said, shaking his head.

In another section, in front of people's houses, there are manhole covers, but many of them are broken or collapsed, so they cannot prevent the foul smell from rising up.
Ms. Mac Thi Dung, a resident of Khe Nan village, expressed her indignation: "We have petitioned the authorities to install manhole covers to reduce the stench, but have not received a response."

What is even more worrying is that many manhole covers have been severely damaged, creating “death holes” right next to the road. Some locals said that this situation has been happening for about 3 years now. Right in front of the entrance to Chieu Luu 1 Kindergarten, deep holes have also appeared due to broken manhole covers. According to the locals, many people have driven their vehicles and fallen into the holes, but fortunately, no unfortunate accidents have occurred.
Khe Nan villagers hope that relevant authorities will quickly handle the above issue to ensure a clean environment for households as well as traffic safety and order in the area./.
