US: A house was mistakenly demolished due to a Google Maps error

(Baonghean.vn) - Billy L. Nabors, a construction company specializing in demolishing buildings, mistakenly demolished Ms. Diaz's house on Tuesday, March 22, after Google Maps provided the wrong address.

Instead of directing them to a house on Cousteau Drive in Rowlett, Texas, Google Maps took them to Diaz's house on Calypso Drive.

"Google's mistake cost me my home," Diaz told CNN on Friday, March 25 local time.

Google later acknowledged the map error in an email, saying it was investigating the cause. Previously, the location errors were quite common on smartphones or GPS devices.

Google Maps uses a combination of satellite, aerial imagery and data along with street maps. The company is now requiring a switch to its Google Map Maker tool to keep its maps up to date with the most accuracy.

However, the above confusion cannot be blamed entirely on technology.

Ms. Diaz told CNN that a foreman confirmed the number of houses that needed to be demolished but did not check the street where the house was located.

Billy L. Nabors declined to comment on the incident. Ms. Diaz said she met with the company's board of directors, including shareholders and the CEO's family, on Friday, March 25, local time, and received an apology for the incident.
