America suddenly mentions "sanctions" against countries buying Russian weapons
Countries that buy weapons from Russia need to remember the “threat of sanctions,” a US administration spokesman said in response to a question about the possibility of imposing sanctions on Egypt, which is planning to buy a batch of Russian Su-35 fighter jets.
The female staff member mentioned the “Countering America's Adversaries Through Sanctions Act (CAATSA)” and called on countries that want to maintain and strengthen military relations with the United States to consider this law very seriously.
She also noted that the US government cannot always prevent the state from imposing sanctions.
“We do not have the ability to exercise particular flexibility with respect to CAATSA,” the official said.
In 2017-2018, Russia delivered 24 Su-35 aircraft to "customers" including the armies of several countries.
