The US accuses Russia, China and Iran of trying to influence the US Congress' midterm elections in early November 2018.

The US government warned on October 19 that Russia, China and Iran are trying to influence the US midterm elections in early November 2018. US federal prosecutors have just charged a Russian citizen with participating in activities to interfere in the US election.

Information from US intelligence and judicial agencies said that interference activities from these countries include using social media to expand divisive issues, spreading false information about political candidates as well as sponsoring the content of English-language press sites.

The charges come after the US government announced criminal charges against a Russian woman for attempting to interfere in the US midterm elections.

A joint statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, the Department of Justice, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Department of Homeland Security stressed that foreign interference in US elections is a threat to American democracy. These agencies also stated that verifying and preventing interference activities is a top priority of the federal government./.
