Police said the gunman who opened fire at a country music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada, on the evening of October 1 was identified as Stephen Paddock, 64, a local resident. Paddock fired from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay hotel near the music stage. He was killed by SWAT forces, AFP reported.

Police found "multiple weapons" in Paddock's hotel room.

According to records, Paddock lived in a $396,000 apartment in Mesquite, about 80 miles northeast of Las Vegas, near the Arizona border. Local media previously reported that Paddock had lived in Reno, Nevada, California and Florida.

The shooting occurred at around 10:30 p.m. on October 1 at the Route 91 Harvest music event. At least 50 people were killed, including two police officers, and more than 200 were injured in the incident.

It was a "lone wolf" attack, the Las Vegas sheriff said, AP reported. Authorities said they had located Marilou Danley, 62, Paddock's roommate, who is being sought as part of the investigation.

US President Donald Trump has been briefed on the "tragedy". He "sends his condolences and sympathies to the victims and their families".
