According to TASS on August 21, Vice President JD Vance stated that the United States has received detailed information on the negotiating positions of Russia and Ukraine and is currently holding discussions.

"We finally have the details. We're processing them, but we don't have everything yet," the US Vice President told Fox News on August 20 (Washington time).

"Ukraine wants to know that Russia will no longer attack its territory. They want to ensure their territorial integrity in the future. Russia wants certain territories, most of which they already control, but some they don't. That's the purpose of the negotiations," Vance said.

Meanwhile, Politico, citing reliable sources, reported that US Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby informed NATO allies that the US would play only a minimal role in providing any security guarantees to Ukraine.

According to Politico, this became "one of the clearest signals that Europe will have to shoulder the burden of maintaining long-term peace in Kyiv."

The article points out that Deputy Secretary Colby had stated this position in consultations with military officials from other NATO countries. He gave this response in response to requests from European military officials to clarify "what military and air forces the U.S. could provide to support a peace deal with Russia." Politico emphasizes that, following the consultations, U.S. NATO allies are concerned that President Donald Trump "will rely on Europe to ensure lasting peace."

One of Politico's sources from NATO diplomats, when speaking about guaranteeing Ukraine's security, noted: "Clearly, Europe will be the one to actually do this. The US will not fulfill any full obligations."
