US sends most advanced guided-missile destroyer to East Asia
(Baonghean.vn) - On May 22, USS Milius, one of the most modern guided-missile destroyers of the US Navy, arrived at Yokosuka naval base (Japan), headquarters of the US 7th Fleet, to strengthen defense capabilities against any ballistic missile attack by North Korea or any country in East Asia.

The move comes three weeks before an unprecedented summit scheduled to take place between US President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un in Singapore.
The show of force by the US is seen as a reminder of the military pressure that can be brought to bear on North Korea, as Washington seeks to pressure Pyongyang to abandon its nuclear weapons and ballistic missile program. The US Navy said the Milius would “support security and stability in the Indo-Pacific region”.
The deployment of the Milius destroyer to Japan has been delayed for nearly a year, due to the upgrade period to equip it with the Aegis air defense system, thereby improving the ability to detect and shoot down missiles.
Equipped with missiles capable of shooting down nuclear warheads in the air, the Milius will be part of a naval destroyer force that will help the US defend against any long-range ballistic missile attack by North Korea.
