US sends aircraft carrier Harry Truman to the Middle East
The US Navy strike group, led by the aircraft carrier Harry Truman, has left its home base in Norfolk, Virginia and is en route to the Middle East.

In addition to the aircraft carrier, the strike group includes the guided missile cruiser Normandy, and the destroyers Arly Burke, Balkley, Forrest Sherman and Farragut.
In the initial phase of the operation, the group was accompanied by the German Navy frigate Hesse. Two destroyers, Jason Dunham and Sullivans, are also expected to join the strike group.
The Pentagon representative said the strike group will operate in the areas of responsibility of the US 5th and 6th Fleets and "conduct operations to ensure maritime safety and security cooperation".
