The US is deploying the aircraft carrier USS John Stennis to the Gulf region.
The Voice of Russia, citing US sources on August 23, reported that the aircraft carrier USS John Stennis, along with combat surveillance warships and nuclear submarines, will be deployed to the Persian Gulf region.
At the request of the US military commander in the Middle East, this fleet was deployed here four months earlier than planned.

Currently, the aircraft carriers USS Eisenhower and USS Enterprise are stationed in the Gulf region, both of which are nearing the end of their deployment.
Earlier on August 22, US Defense Secretary Leon Panetta visited the aircraft carrier Eisenhower and answered reporters' questions on board.
According to Mr. Panetta, one of the threats to U.S. interests in the region is Iran's intention to close the Strait of Hormuz and the ongoing events in Syria.
