On June 23, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) said that Syrian government forces had won their first victories against rebel gunmen in the southern province of Daraa, after 7 days of fierce bombardment.

On June 23, the Libyan Navy said that five African migrants were killed and nearly 200 others were rescued off the coast of the country while trying to cross the Mediterranean Sea to Europe.

Specifically, in a first operation on June 22, the Libyan Navy rescued 94 migrants, including 3 children and 9 women, when their boat was sinking off the coast of Garabulli, east of the Libyan capital Tripoli.
