US affirms overwhelming military response to North Korean threat

“Secretary Mattis reaffirmed the United States’ ironclad commitment to the defense of the Republic of Korea,” Pentagon spokeswoman Dana White said in a statement. “Mattis reiterated that any threat to the United States, its territories, or its allies will be met with a massive, effective, and overwhelming military response.”

The Pentagon chief's statement came after a phone call with his South Korean counterpart to discuss North Korea's sixth nuclear test. The two ministers also discussed ways to improve bilateral, trilateral and regional defense relations for peace and stability in Northeast Asia and the Asia-Pacific region./.
