US affirms that Russia and Ukraine should talk directly to each other
(Baonghean.vn) - US State Department spokesman Ned Price said that dialogue about the future of the Ukraine conflict should ultimately be between Moscow and Kiev, not with the West.

Responding to a regular press conference, Mr. Price emphasized that if the Russian Federation intends to show a serious attitude regarding negotiations with Ukraine, Moscow should stop shelling residential areas of its neighbor, because "otherwise it will be just empty words".
"We see (these statements) as rhetoric. We don't see any constructive, legitimate proposals for dialogue and diplomacy," Mr. Price said.
In early October, the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Peskov, noted that there can be no agreement on the conflict if the Ukrainian side refuses to talk, because negotiations require both sides.
In an interview with CNN on October 11, US President Joe Biden declared that the door to diplomacy and dialogue with Moscow to end the war in Ukraine is still open, and did not rule out the possibility of holding a summit with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Bali, Indonesia, in November. President Biden said that his counterpart Putin would not use tactical nuclear weapons in Ukraine.
In addition, President Biden declared that Saudi Arabia will have to "suffer the consequences" after the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries and its partners (OPEC+) announced last week that it would cut oil production.
Regarding the domestic situation, President Biden admitted that the US is likely to experience a "mild" recession following the IMF's economic forecast. The White House boss pledged to once again defeat his predecessor Donald Trump in the 2024 US presidential election./.
