On his Twitter account, Mr. Bolton wrote: "The United States will not tolerate hostile foreign military powers interfering with the Western Hemisphere's shared goals of democracy, security, and the rule of law. The Venezuelan military must stand with the Venezuelan people."
However, Mr. Bolton did not specify which foreign powers he considered "hostile."
Venezuela has been in a serious political crisis for the past two months, after opposition leader Juan Guaido declared himself interim president.
The US and many other countries support this self-proclaimed interim president, while China, Cuba, Russia and many other countries consider Mr. Maduro the only legitimate president of Venezuela./.
