(Baonghean.vn) - On June 25, Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov said that the new sanctions imposed by the US on Iran were unprecedented, and this had undermined the value of Washington's previous statement that it was ready to initiate dialogue with the Islamic Republic.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Ryabkov stated: "These unprecedented new measures show the true value of the statements made by the United States that it wants to conduct dialogue with Iran. In fact, they have devalued previous statements about readiness for dialogue. No one can dialogue by pointing a gun, both literally and figuratively."

According to Mr. Ryabkov, the US needs to review its policy when putting pressure on Iran, otherwise it will never be able to carry out an effective dialogue.

For his part, on the same day, US National Security Adviser John Bolton described Iran's silence on the proposal for dialogue with Washington as "disturbing". In a statement, Mr. Bolton stated: "The President (Donald Trump) has opened the door to real negotiations. However, Iran's silence is deafening".

A day earlier, the US announced sanctions against Iran's Supreme Leader - Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and other senior officials. Iran's Foreign Ministry criticized Washington's decision as "permanently closing the path of diplomacy" with the Iranian government.
