(Baonghean.vn) - US Secretary of State John Kerry said on July 7 that the US hopes China will continue to cooperate in sanctioning North Korea after Beijing criticized the US embargo against North Korean leader Kim Jong-un.

Mr. Kerry spoke with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi about cooperation on the North Korea issue, in accordance with the United Nations Security Council Resolution.

At the same time, Mr. Kerry also said that the US is ready to return to negotiations with North Korea to persuade this country to give up its nuclear weapons program.
Earlier on July 7, the Chinese Foreign Ministry voiced its opposition to the US's first unilateral imposition of sanctions against leader Kim Jong Un on the grounds of "serious violations of human rights".
China believes that the human rights situation in North Korea is not a threat to international peace and security.
Some analysts said the US accusation could be a move to make China limit international sanctions aimed at preventing the development of North Korea's nuclear weapons program./.
