My Linh admitted that at first she didn't think she could become a singer, even her father didn't want her to pursue this career.

Share in the programTalking to the future, diva My Linh said that she herself encountered many difficulties in her musical career. However, she was lucky to meet many "noble people" so she overcame the difficulties safely.

She revealed that her original dream was to become a literature teacher, but because she often won singing competitions, she thought "the singing profession chose me":“When I was in high school, I wanted to become a literature teacher because I didn't believe I had the ability or potential to become a singer.

I always thought that if I wanted to pursue art, I had to be a “family member”, have this and that. I didn’t have that, so I always reminded myself to study hard. Even when I went to sing, my father objected, saying that “singing is a lowly profession”, that there would be no one in this family who would pursue that career.

Maybe my father didn't consider it a career, didn't think his son could pursue it. I also doubted myself like that, because every career requires a bit of luck. But until now, I don't regret not going to Pedagogical College."

Diva My Linh shared in the program.

To prove that "the profession chooses the person", My Linh revealed a funny story:“That year I followed my friends to the SV 96 exam. Seeing people singing happily, I wrote a note to Lai Van Sam, asking to sing a song. He agreed to let me sing. Coincidentally, that song became popular and from then on I studied less and sang more. So it took me many years to return to school to graduate.”

The witty diva shares about herself when she first started her career:“The first time I competed, I sang badly, even worse than the amateurs now. But no one told me that I couldn’t sing like that, everyone said “everyone who’s new to the profession is like that”. But I trust people, so when I heard that, I believed it right away.”

"The first time I competed, I sang badly, even worse than the amateurs now," My Linh shared.

After becoming famous, My Linh always tried to assert herself in her own way. She was not satisfied with the general trend but wanted her name to be mentioned through her typical products:“In my time, everyone sang the same songs. There was only one song, but sometimes up to 10 people sang it together. I myself struggled to assert myself, wanted to “write my name on songs”, so I sought out musicians to commission my own compositions, and sought out the Anh Em band to find opportunities.”

To achieve her wish, the “short-haired” diva went to Ho Chi Minh City alone, struggling to find opportunities. The female singer accepted to sing a trial to have her own songs:“At that time, I took the train to the South and stayed in Ho Chi Minh City for 3 months. I borrowed my friend’s motorbike and wandered around the alleys to find opportunities for myself.

There, I lived with my friends, had no money, so I didn’t use makeup or sunscreen. I covered my face with freckles, rode my motorbike around the alleys, went to this place and that place to try singing. Gradually, everything took shape and I have today.”

Diva My Linh: "It's not reasonable for me to compete with Gen Z kids now."

When asked if she was afraid that her product would not achieve the expected results, My Linh admitted that it was completely normal:“Now I am mature enough and old enough to see that I have had a lot, so I think opportunities should be shared equally among everyone. It is unreasonable for me to compete with Gen Z kids now.

To be honest, even if they wanted to compete, they wouldn't be able to because the conditions are too good: They learn English from a young age, are exposed to all kinds of information early, they just lack calmness. But later on, life will teach them and they will have calmness."

My Linh is considered one of the four divas of Vietnamese music, along with Thanh Lam, Hong Nhung and Ha Tran. In the past few decades of singing, she has received many awards and received special love from the public.

In her personal life, she married musician Anh Quan and has 3 children. The singer's children are all grown up. She is considered one of the artists with the most fulfilling career and life in Vietnamese showbiz.
