US warns of Russia's unlimited-range missile
Russia's "unlimited range" missile, due to be operational by 2025, could create dangerous situations, US intelligence warns.
US military leaders are deeply concerned about Russian nuclear weapons, especially as Russia’s “unlimited range” missile is set to be ready within six years. A US intelligence report says the Kremlin has pushed ahead with its plans.
"Russia has committed to investing heavily in such new systems to penetrate US missile defenses," said Jeffrey Lewis, a nuclear weapons expert. "We are being drawn into an arms race. Trump's personal friendship with Putin is no substitute for treaties to restrain nuclear superpowers. Regardless of what the two leaders say, the US and Russian militaries are still spending billions of dollars on new nuclear weapons to target each other."
Joshua Pollack, also a nuclear expert, agreed: "Almost everything he (Putin) wants to develop is designed to disable or penetrate the US missile defense system in one way or another. Their current generation of ICBMs can do this without any difficulty. But he probably anticipates the next generation of defense technology and tries to get ahead of it."
