US wants to 'ignore' NATO so Ukraine can have allies 'against Russian aggression'
A bill has been introduced in the US House of Representatives that would allow Kiev to be designated a major US ally outside NATO.
Such a status would remain in effect until Kiev formally joins the North Atlantic Alliance.
The Ukrainian diplomatic mission said that the draft law "On assisting Ukraine in protecting its independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity" implies the transfer of anti-tank, anti-ship and anti-aircraft weapons to Kiev, the sale of lethal defense equipment to the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as well as helping to strengthen Kiev's cybersecurity to protect against the "threat of Russian aggression."
As stated on the embassy's website, Washington's policy should be aimed at "prohibiting any territorial changes in Ukraine by force." In addition, as the Ukrainian diplomatic mission said, Washington intends to support Kiev on the Kerch Strait incident and the civil conflict in Donbass.
