US, Russia at odds over joint operation in Syria
On May 23, the Russian Foreign Ministry said that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had a phone call with his US counterpart John Kerry, discussing Moscow's proposal to conduct a joint operation to deal with rebel groups that do not comply with the ceasefire in Syria.

However, the US State Department said that Washington will not discuss joint operations in Syria with Russia.
According to the US State Department, Secretary of State Kerry has called on Russia to pressure Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to stop airstrikes targeting opposition forces in Aleppo and the suburbs of Damascus.
According to the ministry, Washington also urged the Assad regime to stop escalating attacks on Aleppo and Daraya, stop besieging towns and blocking access to humanitarian aid./.
